ecoSTORE USA - Product Review!

EcoSTORE USA is a great company that features eco-friendly products with "no nasty chemicals" at a reasonable price. ecoSTORE USA carries baby items (moisturizer, balm, shampoo, body wash, etc), household items (cleaners, dishwashing liquid, laundry liquid, etc), bath and body items (soap, body wash, hand lotion, etc), and pet products (conditioner, shampoo, ear wash, etc). They will soon be releasing a line of adult hair-care products which I cannot wait to try!

The company was founded in a small village in Northland, New Zealand, and became international upon success. What I love about ecoSTORE USA is their commitment to excellence and product safety. They strive to give customers products which work better than the leading brands, while at the same time saving us, our pets, and our children from harmful ingredients. We often do not notice the various chemicals placed in our household, beauty, and animal products -- less often than we notice what is being put in our food. How often do you check the label of these items? There are less studies available indicating the benefits of natural ingredients in non-food items, but if you take the time to research sulfates, petrochemicals, and dyes, I guarantee you will be tempted to try the alternative. The more I look into the benefits, the more I sway towards a "green" lifestyle..so I jump at the chance to try any new green products. All ecoSTORE USA products are 100% plant based, even down to the fragrances. This is great for allergies or sensitivities in children, pets, and adults. To learn more about the founding of the company or to become educated on the chemicals in our products and how you can lead a more natural lifestyle, you can visit the ecoSTORE USA website.

I was graciously given the choice of two ecoSTORE USA products to review. This was a tough decision! I chose the Coconut and Vanilla body wash for adults, and the All Natural Leave-in Conditioner for Pets. I have very sensitive skin, and so does my dog, so I thought I would see the difference that these products made.

First of all, the products came VERY quickly in the mail...this makes a world of difference to me, as I can't stand waiting too long. The Coconut and Vanilla body wash retails for only $4.75 for a 13.5 fl oz bottle. This is a good price, when you compare it to the NON-natural varieties available at the local supermarket. The other scents offered are rose and cardamon and orange and patchouli. The Coconut and Vanilla has a nice, light scent -- sort of a beachy feel. I love that I smelled fresh after using it, without it being overpowering. I already use perfume, so I don't like body wash that has too heavy of a scent. Also, I know many people who are sensitive to fragrances, or have significant others who don't like strong smells...this would be a great alternative. This probably comes from the fact that the scent is organic.

Here is a list of ingredients, in case you can't read the label in the picture above:

  • Water, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Sodium Lauroamphoacetate, Wheat Germamidopropyldimonium, Hydroxypropyl Hydrolysed Wheat Protein, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Phenoxyethanol and Caprylyl Glycol, Naturally Derived Fragrance
And here is what this product does NOT contain, as part of their "no nasty chemicals" promise:
  • NO toxic petrochemicals
  • NO lauryl laureth sulfates
  • NO propylene glycol
  • NO dyes
  • NO artificial perfumes
  • NO parabens
  • NO cocamide DEA
  • NO cocomidopropyl betaine

When I used the body wash, I was surprised to find that it was clear, but I quickly reminded myself that this is because there are no dyes in ecoSTORE USA products..and my skin loved this aspect! I used a palm-full of product for each major area of my body, and got a smooth and silky result. Sometimes my skin feels dried out or irritated after using body wash with harsh chemicals, but it felt hydrated after using the Coconut and Vanilla body wash. My one warning is to be careful when squeezing the bottle, as the body wash has a thin consistency. It does form a light lather and rinses off easily, not leaving a soapy residue. All-in-all, I was very pleased with this product and would definitely recommend it. If you aren't a body wash sort of person, ecoSTORE USA has soap for a mere $1.00 on sale at the moment, available in vanilla, manuka honey and kelp, coconut, and lemongrass.

(staring at me cautiously as I got out the product)

Next, I was excited to try the Leave-in Conditioner on my dog, Icarus. He has EXTREMELY sensitive skin, which is prone to "itchy bumps" and red patches. He often resorts to actually pulling out clumps of his own fur until he has red, bloody patches of skin. Sometimes we have to give him medicine for the condition. He is allergic to fleas, so whenever my cat gets them from outdoors and transfers them, his skin becomes even worse. Whenever we give him a bath, his skin becomes very dried out, and he itches for days after. Unfortunately, we haven't found any products to help moisturize. When he licks his fur instead of pulling it out, he creates these awful clumps of matted fur. Some of the clumps are so extreme and embedded close to the skin that we have to carefully cut them off or pick through them with a comb. The problem? He has a mind of his own, and he hates when we touch the little matts of fur. It makes it hard to fix the issue, but we usually taunt him with treats. ;) He has long fur that is crimped like a Cocker Spaniel's in some airs and fluffy like a Pomeranian's in other areas. If you have a dog with long hair, perhaps you know where I'm coming from with all of these problems.

Needless to say, I was excited to try ecoSTORE USA's natural, Leave-in Conditioner. This conditioner promises to provide "lustrous shine" and "easy detangling". You can spray the conditioner directly onto your pets' fur, or you can spray it into your hands and knead them into the mat or the fur in general. You should leave the conditioner on for five minutes if you are planning on detangling knots or matts. The product is safe for dogs and cats that are older than 6 weeks. It retails for only $5.60. After using this on Icarus, I plan to use it on my cat, Jewel, and upload more pictures. I found that she has one large matt in her fur that I would like to take care of.

Here are the ingredients in the Leave-in Conditioner:

  • Aqua (water), Aloe Vera (certified organic), Cocodimonium Hydroxypropyl Hydrolyzed Rice Protein, Glycerin, Sodium Cocyl Glutamate, Sodium Cocoyl Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Disodium Capryloyl PCA, Polysorbate 20, Botanical extract blend of Chamolmile, Arnica, Pine Bark, Basil and Cherry Bark, Sodium Hyydroxymethyglycinate, Panthenol, Sweet Orange Esstential Oil, Ylang Ylang Essential Oil, Citric Acid.
Here is what the conditioner does NOT have:

  • NO toxic petrochemicals
  • NO lauryl laureth sulfates
  • NO propylene glycol
  • NO dyes
  • NO artificial perfumes
  • NO parabens
  • NO cocamide DEA
  • NO cocomidopropyl betaine
Here are some of the matts or knots that I am talking about -- I couldn't photograph all of the awful ones, but this might give you an idea!

Like the body wash, the conditioner has a light, airy scent which is not overpowering. My dog seemed to be okay with the smell, but he did not like it when I sprayed the conditioner directly on his fur (he is also afraid of water, like most dogs, so I assume this had something to do with that). When I sprayed it onto my hands, he was a bit more agreeable. I picked an area with a matt or a knot, and massaged a palm-full of conditioner in for a few minutes. Then I let him run around the room for five minutes before I tried to detangle the knots. He is probably not the BEST candidate, as he tries to bite me when I touch the matts at all. However, I noticed an immediate result. If you pick the matt apart slowly after the conditioner has soaked in, or if you brush it out with a comb or a brush, it will come apart -- maybe I no longer have to resort to cutting them out! He ends up looking rather dilapidated with the uneven cut that I have to give sometimes, so this is great. I also tried to cut out a knot and spray the conditioner on it when he wasn't being agreeable to see how it worked, and it came apart within a minute or so! I definitely recommend this product if you have an animal with sensitive skin or matted fur. I actually really want to try the hypoallergenic shampoo now, so if I purchase some, I will be sure to review that as well.  Below are some pictures of the process:

Thanks ecoSTORE USA for providing me with softer skin and a way to remove the matts from my dog's fur! He may not thank you now, but he will later! Please visit ecoSTORE USA on facebook or twitter to leave them some love and to find out more about their products.

Disclaimer -- I was offered these products in exchange for a review. I was not, in any other way, compensated for my time. This did not influence my review.. my opinions are mine, and mine only.
