John Paul Pet Tea Tree Pack Review and Giveaway!

Have you ever used Paul Mitchell hair products for yourself? It turns out that the co-founder of Paul Mitchell, John Paul DeJoria, makes a wonderful array of high-quality pet grooming products -- John Paul Pet. This line of products, developed in 2005, was specially created for dogs, cats, and horses and is tested on HUMANS first for safety and effectiveness. John Paul Pet is devoted to making products which enhance BOTH the appearance and health of our pets. They have shampoos, conditioners, and pet wipes with botanically-based ingredients that tend to the unique differences of a pet's skin. Their products are also pH balanced. John Paul Pet was the 2010 winner of Best Pet Products by FIDO Friendly magazine.

John Paul Pet has answers for the following pet-care issues that many of us face:
  • Odor
  • Dry, itchy, flaky coats and skin
  • Unpleasant breath
  • Build-up around ears and eyes
  • Shedding, loose hairs and dander

John Paul Pet was generous enough to offer me one Tea Tree Pack Grooming System, so that I (and Icarus) could share my opinion with you. This pack includes Tea Tree Shampoo, Tea Tree Conditioning Spray and Full Body & Paw Pet Wipes. I picked this grooming system because it is ideal for dogs with sensitive skin, dry coats/skin, and hotspots. As I've mentioned in the past, Icarus has super sensitive skin -- he gets red patches and hotspots from lots of different allergens, especially when he gets fleas. Some weeks he is more irritated and itchy than others and it can really impact his day to day functioning. He just kind of lays around and doesn't want to play or be his usual devilish self if his skin is bothering him. We are always happy to test new products that cater to sensitive skin. I do not like to put anything with harsh chemicals on him, especially when he is taking a bath...the bath tends to dry his skin out as it is, so I like to chose something softer.

The Tea Tree Pack shampoo and conditioning spray are non-toxic and infused with natural Australian Tea Tree oil, which is great for cleaning and soothing irritated skin. Like the rest of their product line, these products have a special pH balance that is required for a dog's skin.

The Tea Tree Shampoo (16 fl. oz. bottle) should be massaged into damp fur, but not into ears or around the eyes. You should lather it from the head down to the tail, and then rinse with cold water. If needed, you can repeat for extra cleaning or deodorizing. For best results, towel dry and then brush and comb your dog until their coat dries completely. The shampoo contains the following ingredients:

Water, sodium laureth sulfate, cocamidopropyl betaine, cocamide DEA, melaleuca alternifolia oil, eucalyptus oil, hydrolyzed oats, sweet almond oil, matricaria extract, aloe barbadensis leaf juice, glycerin, citric acid, methylcholorisothiazolinone, methylisothiazolinone, tetrasodium EDTA, sodium choloride, propylene glycol, blue 1 and yellow 5

We really liked the fact that the shampoo lathered up nicely and left Icarus' coat fluffy and soft. You can tell that it is high-quality, because a little went a long way and it left him smelling fresh. All of the oils mixed together create a fragrance that, for some reason, reminds me of a good-smelling cough drop. Admittedly, sometimes we use human baby products when we give him a bath, simply because they are more gentle...but often he starts itching immediately after he gets out of the bath. Today, he didn't do this. Although he still hated the bath, he didn't seem to mind the Tea Tree Shampoo -- I hope that it really did moisturize and help sooth the red patches on his belly. We will definitely continue to use this product!

The Tea Tree Conditioning Spray (8 fl. oz bottle) is "specifically formulated to penetrate and help revitalize skin and coat, leaving lots of shine on dull, dry coats. Excellent for use between grooming visits." You should shake this product before spraying evenly over a dry or damp coat, then you should brush your dog's coat. The conditioning spray contains the following ingredients: water, sweet almond oil, matricaria flower extract, tea tree leaf oil, aloe barbadensis leaf juice, hydrolyzed oats, panthenol, propylene glycol dicaprylate/dicaprate, dicetyldimonium chloride, guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride, phenyl trimethicone, polyquarternium-37, PPG-1 trideceth-6, disodium EDTA, butylene glycol, DMDM hydantoin, methylisothizolinone, cyclopentasiloxane, cyclohexasiloxane, citric acid, and sodium hyroxide

Icarus does not like being sprayed with anything, but we chased him around the room until we were able to get him to land on the couch to try the Tea Tree Conditioning Spray. I think that it made his fur have a bit more luster and life to it. It looks glossy and rich, like we went to a nice grooming salon even though it was an at-home project!

The Full Body and Paw Wipes are an added bonus to this grooming system. Here is what John Paul Pet says about these wipes: "Our pre-moistened wipes are specially formulated to help groom and clean your pet whether after playtime or for a quick cleanup. Also helps remove loose hairs and dander from coat, while moisturizing pet's paws and pads."

These wipes should be massaged into fur and paws, again avoiding the ear and eye regions. They include the following ingredients:

Water, Methylaraben, Butylparaben, Ethylparaben, Isobutylparaben, Propylparaben, Phenoxyethanol, Polysorbate 20, Fragrance, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, and Lanolin

These wipes are great! I think that we will find MANY occasions to use them, as Icarus is constantly getting himself into messy situations. So far, we used them on his paws and coat when he came in from a muddy walk and shortly after we gave him a bath, simply because it is hard to wash the pads of his feet when he is standing in the sink. They definitely helped remove the dirt and mud, and I think they will also help moisturize his pads. He even has days where he bites the ends of his feet, so I think that they irritate him as well. The wipes have a nice, light smell like baby power.

  17. It's best to ask or read instructions about how to grow as well as look after the particular varieties you purchased for the reason that each varieties has different specifications so as to get bigger and develop to a beautiful and healthy bonsai tree. Bonsai Tree Gardener
