Beauty Care Choices was generous enough to send me one of the professional hair products that they distribute for the purpose of this review. I received a 9 oz. aerosol bottle of Bosley Professional Strength Volumizing and Thickening Styling Hairspray.
Bosley is best known for its expertise in hair restoration, for balding or thinning hair. Bosley also makes a professional line of products that help strengthen and thicken your hair, for a more voluminous look. This Volumizing and Thickening Styling Hairspray is made to thicken your hair, weightlessly, while providing shine and style. It has a long-lasting formula that is free of build-up, stickiness, or flaking. This hairspray also has "colorkeeper" properties, which allow it to protect colored hair and extend the life of your dye. It is also humidity and heat-resistant, and thermal-styling protective.
Bosley Professional Strength Volumizing and Thickening Styling Hairspray contains the following ingredients:
Alcohol, hydrofluorocarbon 152a, water, butyl ester of PVM/MA copolymer, glycerin, aminomethyl, propanol, octylacrylamide/acrylates/butylaminoethyl, methacrylate copolymer, dimethyl stearamine, peg-75 lanolin, ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate, lactamide mea, panthenol, linoleamidopropyl, ethyldimonium ethosulfate, dimethyl lauramine isostearate, rosa canina fruit extract, cymbopogon schoenanthus extract, aloe barbadensis leaf extract, achillea millefolium extract, quercus alba extract, chamomilla recutita flower extract, salvia officinalis leaf extract, symphytum officinale extract, hamamelis virginiana leaf extract, melissa officinalis leaf extract, geranium maculatum extract, fragrance, linalool
Bosley Professional Strength Volumizing and Thickening Styling Hairspray is easy to use -- simply hold 10-12 inches from your hair and spray around your head evenly. This product is vegan and cruelty-free. Right now, you can purchase the Bosley hairspray on the Beauty Care Choices website, here, for just $18.99.
I was excited to review the Bosley Professional Strength Volumizing and Thickening Styling Hairspray not because I am lacking AT ALL in the volume department, but because my hair, when straightened, is lacking a particular style. I have naturally wavy hair that I usually straighten, but I am also starting to embrace it, at times, which is also a style that really requires hairspray for upkeep throughout the day. Unfortunately, my wavy 'do wouldn't cooperate with me on the day I was taking pictures, so I decided to straighten my hair first. When I straighten it, it becomes a lot more manageable and it calms down, which I like, but it sometimes becomes a little TOO flat.
I wanted to try this hairspray to see if I could add back in that bounce and fullness, while still having a nice, straightened look. I guess I want the best of both worlds! There is just something to be said about people that have straight (whether naturally or otherwise) but well styled hair -- there is a certain volume, fullness, and "flowiness" that mine is simply lacking on a day-to-day basis. I also appreciate a hairspray that can add SHINE instead of white particles and coarseness, and one that can protect against the evils of humidity. Having a thick head of hair is no fun in the summer, because typically any straightening or styling that I spent time on is gone within half an hour, once I start sweating and the moisture takes control of my hair.
As you can see in the pictures below (I apologize if I look tired or annoyed, I promise I wasn't..just a long day!), I started with a straightened look, and then I sprayed the Bosley hairspray evenly around head. I flipped my head upside down and added a little more, because that's what I've seen the professionals do, so I figured it couldn't hurt. Then I just scrunched up my hair a little. The first thing I noticed was that it really does leave your hair with a bit of shine rather than a dullness. Second, they are not lying at all about the weightlessness. I honestly was turned off to hairspray for years because of one bad brand that made it feel like I had a pile of cement on my head and glue in my hair. The only stickiness I felt was on my hands, after scrunching my hair -- no sticky residue was left in my hair. I will have to admit that the smell was definitely not my favorite...kind of overpowering, and I can't exactly put my finger on what the scent is, but to me, it wasn't the most pleasant. However, the smell goes away after the air is cleared, and what matters most is how it leaves your hair. I think it would do an even better job on my wavy curls, but I think I notice a difference in the volume, and the overall style of my hair. My boyfriend said it looked more "salon like", so that's a plus. I also think it did something for the humidity, locking in the style a bit more against the summer heat. The only other problem I had with this hairspray was the fact that it clogged up on me twice during the first time using it. I just had to shake it and spray again, but it made me wonder if that will keep happening. Overall, I think it's a great hairspray for anyone that wants to try to amp up their style and stay cute in the humidity, or for anyone with thinning hair that wants to make their hair appear to have more volume.
